YORUBA ROYAL FIGURE

A seated African royal figure. Carved from a light hardwood and covered in pigment. Featuring a nude torso and long neck, the oblong face showcases slightly bulging eyes, topped by a black and white cap. The right arm holds a long staff. This piece was collected in south western Nigeria, but its origin is unknown.

Condition

Signs of wood loss can be seen on the legs and torso, and there is also a deep but stable split present on the left thigh. The left arm is broken at the elbow. The figure is set on a custom made wooden base.
