How are items protected during shipping?

All our items and artwork are first completely wrapped with black or white packaging tissue paper to prevent scratches to the surface. This is then wrapped in 1 or 2 layers of large or small bubble wrap depending on the size and fragility of the item. The properly protected package is then placed in an appropriate shipping box or envelope, void fill material is used to prevent movement when boxes are used.

Certain large items such as Wooden Panels are shipped in custom made crates, we use a specialist courier company for these items and details would be included in the listing

How do I return an item?

Just email Info@afrahouse.com within 14 days of your purchase. More information can be found in our shop policies section.

Do you do offer custom and personalised orders?

We work with very talented, carefully vetted, local African artists. You can commission our artists to produce bespoke pieces. Commissioned artwork can be made to your specifications. Please read our policy on commissions or contact us

Can you help with care Instructions?

For detailed care and maintenance instructions, please email Info@afrahouse.com.

Vintage and Antiques
Do not clean, dust down with a feather duster or fine bristle brush

Wooden Sculptures & Panels
We protect some antiques using Renaissance Wax, a microcrystalline wax polish used in antique restoration & museum conservation around the world.

Most West African artists use a semi permanent wax on more recent wooden artwork. This may come off when abrasive cleaning materials are used. Please gently brush off dust with a feather duster.
When caring for wood, it is important to protect it from sudden changes in temperature which can cause splitting or warping. Keep wood away from heat sources such as radiators and direct sunlight.

Raffia Baskets
Wipe down with a damp rag. Do not immerse in water. Do not use detergents.

What are your wall panel fixings and hanging options?

Our hand hand carved wall panels mostly come with Ryman Hangers already attached.

The Ryman Hanger is an excellent solution for mounting artworks flat to a wall. Designed to attach artworks tight to the wall with no visible fixings, it is easy to install, enables adjustment, and has a choice of three levels of security. The Ryman Hanger also carries the official stamp of approval of the UK's Museum & Galleries Commission.

Do you provide value assessments on artwork?

Afrahouse does not currently offer value assessments on artwork.

Are all your pieces available on your website?

We have an extensive collection and are constantly adding new arrivals to our website. Most of our larger pieces are only available to view in our London gallery

What if I purchase a very large item?

To ship very large large items such as wall panels or tall sculptures, a custom made wooden crate will have to be built. Some fragile items such as pots might also be shipped in a wooden crate. This normally takes 3-5 working days. The calculated shipping costs takes the expense of making the crate, packaging and weight into account.

Customs Charges - How am I affected?

Depending on where you live, your purchase may be subject to import duties and taxes. These additional charges are to be paid by you as Afrahouse cannot determine how much will be charged. For further information, please contact your local customs office for specific details of applicable charges in your own country.

Do you purchase artwork from your customers?

All artwork in our gallery is purchased directly from Africa where we have a very extensive ground operation. On rare occasions, we do purchase artwork from individuals that contact us.
