Urhobo Male Standing figure. African Sculpture
Standing upright on a wooden plinth with short arms bent forward, large head with raised scarification on the forehead, ears carved in relief, open mouth and oval-shaped eyes. Urhobo figures are traditionally carved wearing a hat.
Urhobo people are of the northwestern part of the Niger River delta in southern Nigeria.
The Urhobo produce many different art forms, the most popular being their "Iphri" shrine figures.
Condition:
This sculpture is in very good vintage condition. Minor wood loss underneath the base. Small but stable split along the leg of the figure.
