NUPE POT SUPPORT

Nupe Pot Support Stands are crafted with terracotta to provide a stable base for round-bottomed Nupe pots and often feature broad flat rings encircling the trunk.

The stands are partially buried into the ground, helping keep pot contents clean and maximizing space in traditional Nupe homes. Nupe homes would have entire walls lined with rows of supports fully stacked with pots. Many of these stands demonstrate evidence of being buried, with encrustation and darkened top portions due to smoke from cooking and home fires.

Nupe pot supports are hollow and can also be used as a storage container.
