The Fulani people, also known as Fula or Fulbe, are one of the largest and most widely dispersed ethnic groups in Africa, with significant populations across West and Central Africa. They are renowned for their pastoralist lifestyle, cattle herding, and strong cultural traditions.

Geography: The Fulani are spread across more than 20 countries in West and Central Africa, including Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Cameroon, Guinea, and Chad.

Language: The Fulani speak Fula (also known as Fulfulde or Pulaar), which is a Niger-Congo language and has various dialects across regions.

Nomadic Heritage: Historically, many Fulani were nomadic cattle herders, migrating seasonally in search of grazing land. Today, some Fulani maintain this pastoral lifestyle, while others have settled in urban areas and engaged in various professions.

Cultural Diversity: Fulani culture is diverse due to their wide geographic distribution. They have a rich tradition of oral storytelling, music, and dance. Traditional attire often includes flowing robes, turbans, and distinctive jewelry.

Religion: The majority of Fulani people are Muslim, and Islamic practices and values play a significant role in their daily lives.

Social Organization: Fulani society is organized into clans and lineages, with a hierarchical structure. Elders hold considerable influence, and leadership positions may be inherited or earned through wisdom and experience.

Economic Activities: While cattle herding remains a vital economic activity, Fulani engage in various professions, including farming, trade, and crafts. Their cattle are highly prized for dairy products, meat, and as a source of wealth.
