AFRICAN NUPE BED

Large, rare, vintage Nupe bed. Carved out of one piece of solid wood with a rounded rectangular top and angled conical legs. Deep brown patina throughout. This masterpiece is from the Nupe tribe of Northern Nigeria. 

The Nupe people are traditionally called Nupawa by the Hausas and Tapa by their Yoruba neighbours. They are predominantly found in Niger, Kogi and Kwara States. Bida town is regarded as their ancestral homeland.

Nupe beds have become a design classic and are repurposed into coffee tables or low consoles.
