Beautiful African camel saddle stool.
This stunning camel saddle foot stool is partially collapsible by removing the lovely brass caps that hold the wooden frame in place. The real leather camel saddle cushion is removable, has a zipper on the back and is decorated with intricate Hausa leather stitching. The stitching represents the Hausa Northern eternal knot Dagin Arewa, a traditional symbolic indicator of Hausa identity.
Hausas are a large ethnic group chiefly found in northwestern Nigeria and adjacent southern Niger. Hausa society to a large extent is politically organised in a feudal basis with the traditional language heavily infused with Arabic words as a result of Islamic influence, which spread during the later part of the 14th century from the kingdom of Mali. Hausas are famous for their leatherworking, weaving and silversmithing. The Hausa aristocracy had historically developed an equestrian based culture.
This stool is well made and in very good condition structurally with clean undamaged leather cushion and a few minor scuffs on base of the wooden frame. It is in lovely condition generally. A real rare gem.
